Dear Students and Parent/Guardians,
At this time, the district plans to close school on Tuesday 1/21/25 and Wednesday, 1/22/25 due to the weather forecast next week. Today all RHS students were sent home with an inclement weather instructional packet.
This year, all 9th and 10th grade students will be taking the preACT to gain exposure to the ACT process, while all current 11th grade students will be taking the ACT. To support our preparations, this instructional packet includes ACT prep activities for Math, Science, English and Reading. Topics covered in this packet are also a great review of skills for our 12th grade students.
It is very important that students complete packet, as the work will be used to potentially count toward the required number of instructional minutes mandated by the Louisiana Department of Education in the event make up days would need to be discussed.
Students will be required to complete their packet and turn in their work to their core teachers, as listed below. Grades will be given for this assignment in each of the core classes.
Math ā submit to Math teacher
Science ā submit to Science teacher
Reading ā submit to Social Studies teacher
English ā submit to English teacher
In addition to completing the inclement weather packet, students are also encouraged to utilize this time to complete any make up work and missing assignments, especially for those students who have been absent recently. Students enrolled in Edgenuity courses are encouraged to continue to work within the program if at all possible in order to not fall significantly behind. An announcement was made to students today to report to the library at lunch to check out a chromebook if needed for make up work or Edgenuity courses.
Additional Questions and Answers:
Q: If a student has more than one core class (like more than one English class), which class do they turn the packet in to English work into?
A: Both. Students with two core classes will need to have their teachers communicate with each other to count the grade in both classes.
Q: What is a senior does not have a social studies or science class, do they have to do those subjects?
A: Students are encouraged to complete the packet, however, those students will not be penalized for those subjects if they do not have that core course.
Q: Do Dual Enrollment students need to complete the work?
A: Those students will not be penalized for those subjects if they do not have that core course on campus, however, they are to be reminded that their DE course deadlines may not change and they should continue working on their coursework at home.
Q: How much will this assignment be worth?
A: Once we return, the core teachers will collaborate to determine a fair and consistent method for implementing the grades. We can assure students at this time, however, that there will be a major grade for this work in all core classes.
Q: When does the packet need to be turned in?
A: Students who were present on Friday to receive the packet in person should have the packet completed on the first day we return to school.
Q: What happens if a student was absent Friday when the packets were passed out?
A: The packets are posted digitally in all grade level google classrooms. If they student has the ability to access that from home, they are encouraged to do so. If they cannot print, they may write their answers on a separate sheet of paper. If they cannot access google classroom at home, they will be given the packet when we return to school with a deadline to complete the packet as a make up assignment.
Rayne High School is committed to continuing to provide quality educational activities to our students regardless of the circumstances. As always, we appreciate your support. We hope everyone stays safe and warm!
Thank you,
